If you cut-and-paste from MS Word 2003 into EAT, certain words, like place names (Florida, Chicago, University of Florida) and some proper names (Alliance Online) it shows up in EAT with extraneous words in it. For example:

“University of Florida” becomes “placePlaceTypeUniversity of PlaceNameFlorida

“Chicago” becomes “placeCityChicago”

“Florida” becomes “placeStateFlorida”

"Alliance Online" becomes "placeCityAlliance Online"

I first noticed this ca. 7/10/06, and as it was driving me crazy, I mentioned it to Susan, Nicole and Glinda, and they all experienced the same thing. This problem seems to come up whether you’re using EAT 2.5 or 2.6, and everyone agreed it’s a recent thing within the last two weeks. I wrote to Howard, Marion, and Diana about it, and they seem to think it might be an issue of Java, Windows or MS Word's interface with EAT. Somehow, a recent update to one of those applications affects the clipboard. I haven’t seen anything on the Word boards about it.

It can temporarily be avoided by first copy-and-pasting MS Word text into Word Pad and then carrying it over to EAT. I strongly suggest that everyone proofread carefully all documents that have been carried from Word to EAT in the last month.
